Site Assessment Process

1. Existing Nearby Energy Infrastructure

The most important factor to qualifying your land is being located to a nearby electrical substation with potential interconnection capacity.

High-voltage wires

2. Infrastructure Upgrade Analysis

The next important factor is if your parcel is located adjacent to new transmission infrastructure. Developers need to stay in-budget to pencil large-scale distributed generation projects and require three phase lines on or adjacent to your property.

3. Topography and Geotechnical Analysis

Lastly, we analyze the topography of your site to determine buildable acreage for the community solar project and ultimately determine if a community solar project is feasible on your land.

Landowner Frequently Asked Questions

What service does Clean Earth Renewables provide to Landowners seeking to host a community solar farm?

We provide no-cost land feasibility analysis, lease term and condition negotiations and onboarding to leading community solar developers and operators across major community solar markets.

What are the major risks of leasing land to a community solar developer?

Working with a developer that doesn't have a portfolio of projects in your service area in a mature market can pose a major risk to project success, and working with an experienced developer who's successfully zoned, permitted, constructed and sold projects in your service area is a major key to having project success on your land. Ask your developer if they can offer a site tour or a reference to another landowner or a solar farm in your service area!

How long can a community solar project last?

Community Solar land leases are set for an initial 20 year term, with multiple extension options that can extend the operational life and contract term of the community solar farm for up to 40 years.

How much land or roof space is required to host a solar farm?

Exact size requirements vary by market, but we generally require 6+ acres of land or 40,000 square feet of roof or parking lot area. When you work with Clean Earth, we ensure that every acre or square foot is used effectively. Our local team of community solar experts will give you peace of mind throughout the process.

If I host a community solar farm, can the solar panels power my farm, home or business operations?

Absolutely! However, if you prefer to start saving immediately on your electricity costs, you can also subscribe to one of our existing community solar projects rather than waiting for your solar farm to become operational. Visit our community solar page to learn how to subscribe to an active solar farm in your service area.

Client Testimonials

Working with David at Clean Earth to secure our land lease was very easy. He secured above-market rental rates & terms for us with a top Community Solar developer in Illinois, and we’ve already earned our first pre-construction option payment. Both organizations have been a pleasure to work with and we are excited to move through the development process and begin earning soon. Thank you David & Clean Earth Renewables!
